[ra02] ZAVOLOKA - live @ REPLICA festival

Zavoloka is the project of Katerina Zavoloka from Kiev (Ukraine). In 2003 her first release Suspenzia was published by Kharkov based Nexsound (an independent label of Andrey Kiritchenko), and it excited curiosity from all over the world. Now she is one of the most talented and prolific ukrainian musicians ever: she actively plays live at home and European festivals, she has released several CDs on major international labels. Zavoloka willingly collaborates with other electronic musicians and takes part in multimedia projects connected not only to music, but also plastic and visual arts. By her performance at the RELICA festival Zavoloka predicted her new CD in collaboration with Kotra Wag the Swing. Broken and turned inside out beat, deep electronic impulses and waves of texturized sketches are tied up into a unique unsteady structure. Zavoloka's music neither strives for our admiration nor wants to frighten us off - rather it resembles a person, who wants to share something important with us, and his speach is truly natural, with no sign of pathos. Zavoloka talks to us as if she was just our friend: inconsistently and confusingly, using simple phrases from day-to-day life for expressing things lying far beyond day-to-day routine. |

Nole Plastique is the project of Roman Kutnov, who lives in Riazan (Russia). He is one of those young russian musicians, who don't direct their efforts toward an exact style. This scene is a literally "experimental" one, because the musicians search constantly for new forms of self-expression and communication. For the last 3 years Nole Plastique made several releases that one could call "romantic noise", and that music was mainly built with the help of computer. At this moment Nole Plastique is strongly attracted by rather acoustic sound. His live at the REPLICA festival revealed softness of musical forms in an endless sound flow, which was not far from the contemporary forms of folk music. |

As you might already know, due to some technical difficulties, there was no recording of the music played on the REPLICA festival. But we believe, there should be something that would remind of it. Thus, Alexander Chikmakov, Konstantin Timoshenko, and Denis Kolokol gathered up once more to play and record their festival program. Now it is available for free:

There were no overdubs after the recording to save the impression of a live performance.
We are also plan to publish the silent film "The Man with a Camera" by Dzyga Vertov with the soundtrack by dsp (aka Mark Pitcher). If you remember, this film was the first turn of the festival program.

The REPLICA festival has literally THUNDERED! Everything happened exactly the way we wanted it to happen: the event was totally uncompromising, the performances were diverse, and every other happened to be a surprise. Big thanks to all of you for your support and interest. Now we are confident that we do something important for somebody. And that means - to be continued!..

Our line-up is a bit changed:
VJ-duo Gökçe Gözüm and Aysegül Özmen (Turkey) will not be able to come, because of illness
But! A very profilic and experienced video maker from Georgia Wato Tsereteli will attend our festival
The dance part of REPLICA will start with the set of young and energetic almatian dj Kosta Bazhanov, who is known for his good taste in techno. Kosta promises that the content he is going to play is unknown for the audience of Almaty.
In addition to solo-sets of Kotra and Andrey Kiritchenko they will be accompanied by "virtually" present american Jeff Surak, for their combined audio-visual performance of the trio Critikal.

REPLICA festival has finally found its roof: Da Freak Club, Almaty, Gogolia, 40 (28 Panfilovcev Park)
The festival will start at 20:00 on the 7th of October (Saturday), 2006.
We will soon start spreading flyers over the city. They will bring discount for the entrance, so look for the flyers in music shops, clubs, cafes, etc. Discounts will also be applicable to students and nonresidents of Almaty.

The first international festival of experimental media art REPLICA will take place on the 7th of October 2006 in Almaty, Kazakhstan and will last twelve hours non-stop. It will show the participants wide spectrum of actual trends of contemporary culture.
The festival's organizers creative group [antiparty gang] and Soros Center for Contemporary Art-Almaty have held in last four years some cultural events for growing an interest in contemporary culture. Among them not only little experimental actions but also large-scale festival of alternative club culture of Great Britain SOUNDVISION 2005 (together with British Council).
Projects from Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Austria, Georgia, Turkey, and Kazakhstan will be represented during REPLICA festival.
